Correction in PAN

You can submit the application in the form "Request for New PAN Card or/and Changes or Correction in PAN data" in the following cases:

  • When you already have PAN but want a new PAN card,

  • When you want to make some changes or corrections in your existing PAN details.

All other PAN/s inadvertently allotted to you should be mentioned and the corresponding PAN card copy/s should be submitted for cancellation along with the form.

If you wish to cancel/ surrender your PAN (which you are currently using), then you need to visit your local Income Tax Assessing Officer with a request letter to cancel/ surrender your PAN

It is an illegal act and also a punishable offence to have multiple PAN. Surrender as soon as possible.

What is PAN

PAN stands for Permanent Account Number (PAN).

It is a ten-digit alphanumeric number, issued by the Income Tax Department of India. The PAN is issued to an individual or entity and it is valid across India. PAN once allotted is unaffected by a change of name, address within or across states in India or other factors.

1st three characters are randomly assigned among AAA to ZZZ 4th character may be one of the following "P" stands for Individual. "F" stands for Firm. "C" stands for Company. "H" stands for HUF. "A" stands for AOP. "T" stands for TRUST etc 5th character is the 1st letter of PAN holder's surname
